Gardening has been a therapeutic hobby here for many years. We have always had a greenhouse at home as did our parents. We also have an allotment locally which we have had since 2007. We are members of the Royal Horticultural Society as well as The National Trust and visit their gardens throughout the year. We also visit Garden Centres locally or in Worcestershire when we visit our daughter - see her linked Craft website Here.
Plant propagation is of a particular interest and raising new Clematis cuttings has been fairly successful. These are internodal cuttings in a slightly heated sand tray with an electronic mister keeping them from drying out. I will show some clematis photographs below from the garden over time.
We raise the majority of summer bedding plants from seed or we buy mini-plugs from specialist nurseries to bring them on. Of late we have started to increase our perennial stock in an effort to reduce work.
We previously had an allotment in nearby Welling for 10 years but we needed to always travel by car.Our second plot, taken in 2017, is within walking distance from our home. Here we are usually successful with our potato yields as well as strawberries and blueberries. We also grow onions, garlic, peas, broadbeans, runner beans, french beans, leeks, sweetcorn, beetroot, rhubarb and a few flowers to brighten up the plot.
Our mini polytunnel decided to take wings so we have a new one to erect as soon as we get some better weather
Here I will show some various views of the allotment over the seasons.
It is regret that we have decided to leave our allotment for age and health related issues. We have thoroughly enjoyed having had an allotment for over 17 years during our retirement. It will give us more time to look after our own garden.
